Hymn 465
Thy words unto my taste are sweet
Thy words unto my taste are sweet,
O Lord of hosts, Thy truth I love;
The light it sheds, before my feet
Streams from Thy dazzling place above.
O joy, within the page to find
Such wonderous treasures of Thy mind,
To trace the mysteries of Thy will,
And reach the splendours of Thy throne.
No human wisdom touched that height,
No creature tongue sang that high string;
Thy breath breathed forth the holy light,
Thy finger scroll’d the message plain.
Yet, Mighty Word, Thou stoopedst low
To falt’ring lip and feeble hand;
For humble men spake long ago
Such wisdom as Thy Spirit planned.
To profit him that hungereth
With rich delight and doctrine pure;
To quicken love and strengthen faith,
And make his heav’nly calling sure.
O Truth, who grandly traced the Way,
O Love, who trod it with delight,
Grant all Thy children grace, we pray,
To walk well-pleasing in Thy sight.
