Hymn 946
“He’s asleep” Jesus said
Meter: 8.6.8.6.
“He’s asleep” Jesus said
Of Lazarus His friend,
He who was dead, and was buried
And laid in his own grave.
He who died for four days,
Jesus said, he’s asleep;
He’s the resurrection and life
For all those that trust Him.
Jesus friends never die
But their bodies conceal
Away from worm, below the ground,
Now to fly in the sky.
Sleep on thou beloved,
Jesus is by your side;
Be not afraid, for He promised
Resurrection to us.
His voice will soon be heard
From thy now resting place;
His sweet voice will bow call on thee
Into resurrection.
Lets not be sorrowful
Like one that has no hope;
We bid thee farewell dear belov’d,
Sleep on and take thy rest.
And we also shall sleep
At the time of our call;
O that we at dawn meet again
At the feet of our Lord.
